Hello guys ;)
I had some great idea (or I hope, it's a great idea).
Today started our english lessons.
While the apprenticeship I only have 20 hours of english lessons.
But I had 9 hours english lessons in school before, so my english is okay.
I like the english language and I also read english books. It isn't difficult for me to understand english, but I don't find the right words if I have to speak english or write an english text. Neither I know the right grammar
So: learning by doing.
I can't travel to english speaking country at the moment, so I thougt the internet is also a good communication platform to improve my english knowledge.
Maybe there are some other people out there, who like to communicate in english.
We can talk about everything here in this thread. But only in english.
You can tell about your trip to english speaking countries for example.
Where have you been, what was your expectations, what was the reality?
Someday I want to travel to Ireland. I think, it's a nice country with many green fields and some good singers :D
So this thread does not live only with me writing here.
It's know yours!
Greeting:039:
Jessica

Hej Jessica. First at all, your english is quiet good! I don't know what your definition of "my english is okay" but I think it's great. :D
Did you use the dictionary to write your post?

I like your idea about this threat and I had to aswer because you are the first one who called it THREAD! Other users call it fred. I hate it.

I don't whant to leave you with nothing more than a couple of letters, so I tell you something about my person ;)

My Name ist Mai and I'm 22 years old. I live near to Magdeburg in a flat together with my dog. My dog is an Australian Shepherd(-Collie-Border Collie) Mix called Anuk. Job-related I'm in training to become an child care worker. I'm in grade 2 of 3 and ich realy love to work with children.
In my freetime I meet my friends and I spend a lot auf time with my dog. One of my special hobbies is photography. Last week I bought a new camera which I want to test tomorrow.

I hope my test isn't full of mistakes. I don't know anything about grammar and in the vocational school the englisch lessons are not very informative

Hey there Jessica! :)

This thread comes just right, considering that I will have an oral exam on Tuesday, including a three-minute talk and a role play. (Though I think there has been another of this kind earlier :eusa_think:)
I know the problem with finding the words all too well- today I had to hold a three-minute talk to practice and as I hadn't any preperation time at all, I had to think about what I want to say whlie speaking. It's a bit annoying when you know what you want to say but cannot grasp the word for it and have to pick something that at least explains your point.

I lived in Ireland for five month when I was in ninth grade and I loved the time there. ( And they had this yummy veggie food called QUORN we unfortunately don't have in Germany. :D)
And I want to go to Australia, maybe even for studying abroad.
In the meantime I watch movies and Grey's Anatomy in English and read some Englisch books ( I absolutely love English paperbacks by the way) to keep my brain fit.

Do you mind if I correct some little mistakes I noticed in your text?

You say: to an English speaking country
I believe that as English is a language it's written with a capital e.

It's know yours!
The k shouldn't be there...as the thread is mine now, but I didn't know yet.

Today started our english lessons.
It is: Today our English lessons started/ Our English lessons started today.

Sincerely,
D&C
(who doesn't mind being corrected but would appreciate it)

yeah, there are some people out there! I'm not alone :eusa_dance:
Yes, i had to look up some words  But only 3 or 4 like apprenticeship.
I doesn't know the word "fred":eusa_think: I looked it up at leo.org but they didn't find this word.
So you tell something about you, so I also tell you something about me.
My name is Jessica and I'm 21 years old.
I live in a small village near Freiburg. It's really small, there's no supermarket or something like that.
Only a kindergarten and a little restaurant, which hasn't open the whole year.
But it's a paradise for dogs. All around the village are fields and nice ways to walk with the dog.
We haven't got a dog, only 3 cats, one of them is mine, named Luna. I also had 6 guinea pigs.
By the way: I like Australian Shepherd dogs. They are so beautiful! I like the colors of their fur.
Last year in september I started an apprenticeship as a veterinary laboratory technican. After this I want to study veterinary medicine in Hannover.
Oh, and your english is good too ;)
Daisy, I whish you good luck for your oral exam. I hope, you find the right words ;)
At the moment I read the book "Chemistry of death". Sometimes it's very difficult too understand because there are many words I don't know.
Before that, I read the twilight books and other vampire books like "House of Nights" or "Vampire Academy".
What do you want to study in australia? Only the language?
And I want to be corrected, because otherwise I only learn false things
If I found some mistakes, I also try to correct it if it's okay for you ;)

Hello :D
this is a great thread. I have only English at school and my English skills are not even so good. This thread is a good chance to improve his own skills or simply to freshen up them.
Next week I have to write an English exam. It will take 4 hours. The theme will be a kind of immigration/migration or something like that :eusa_eh:

I even speak English only in the classroom or on holiday.
Once solely there was a short conversation in Norway with the hotel managerin. I was very proud of myself because I am not accustomed

My girlfriend makes one year abroad in the United States. When she comes back she will certainly be able to speak excellent English. I'm sure this trip brings a vast experience with it. She writes me sooo much about her. For example she lives in Michigan...it wasn't her wish area...but its okay for her.

Oh well....i hope i didn't made so many mistakes, if so apologised

best wishes :D

This thread is a really good idea. :D I like it.
And it seems to me, like we got the same problem. I also, like Jessica, am not bad in listening and understanding english books. But I really suck at speaking. It gets worse, thinking of only english speaking kids I sometimes have in one of my primary school classes.

After school - yeah, I'm a little bit older  - I'd nearly managed to unlearn English completely. And I really didn't like it. I startet relearning with books, films and series. So I understood all you said.

But writing my own post is quite hard for me. So I'm cuddling with beolingus while writing.

I also would appreciate being corrected.

Hey Jessica,
I think this thread is a good idea! :D

Because I don't know what to write, I also tell you something about me:
I am a 16-year-old girl from Austria. My hobbies are photographing, reading, shopping, my dog and my other animals.
My dog's name is Buffy and she is a poodle-mix. But at the moment we have two dogs, because she got (?) five puppies and one of them hadn't found an owner yet. His name is "Rüdling"

One of my biggest problems are the tenses. Often I don't know which I should use. :silence:

I like your idea about this threat and I had to aswer because you are the first one who called it THREAD! Other users call it fred. I hate it.
And you call it Threat?

Oh what's that for an exam? I think, at the secondary school I had a related theme.
You have written "once solely..." but shouldn't it be otherwise? I hear the word solely the first time but because of the meaning I would say "solely once". But I'm not sure of that.
You can learn much in English speaking country. Not only the words, also the right pronunciation.
Yes the tenses  I doesn't learn it during 9 years of english lessons... but I have a dream, that one day I have no problems with this! :D
Greetings
Jessica
Oh, thank you all for your interest!

Really good idea! I like this thread.

My job is commercial correspondance english but of course I also have problems because I speak English every day with people in person or on the phone all over the world and I also have to write mails in english but - and yes there is also a but - I speak always about the same things. Things which are related to my job and nothing else.

And because of this I really like the idea of the thread and I hope we will write here a lot of things which has nothing to do with my job. English is so important because I have the possibility to speak with people from nearly all over the world. Only last year in Budapest it was a little bit difficult. I had there a 2-days-training-on-the-job and on the day before the training starts I did a sightseeing in the city. I travelled into the city by public transportation and I trying to ask people on the street for the way or the right bus or tube but most of the people didn't speak a word English. I felt very lonely but in the end I found the way into the city and also back to the hotel by bus and train.

What do you think about such a thread in french - "francais seulement" - ? Does anyone wants to train also french?

  • English only! Beitrag #10
Yes, it is at secondary school, the 11th class. I think immigration/migration is a easy theme and i think you can make something of it. I use the word "solely" very often ^ ^ But it could be that the word order is wrong. I had thought that this is only happening once.

Hello Saba
You can open such a thread and look, if there are also some french speaking people.
I only have french in school for 3 years and I don't like it  I live at the border to France but I only can speak french with my hands and feeds.

  • English only! Beitrag #12
I like French but I think it is difficult to speak and to write it. Listening and reading is a little bit easier for me. Maybe one day I will try a "French"-Thread but not now. Now the English-Thread is enough.

I noticed some grammar mistakes in your posts so I'll try to correct them.

The Chemistry of Death is by Simon Becket, isn't it? I read all episodes of the Hunter series. I mixed up the order though, and read some in English and some in German.
I want to study Chemistry after finishing Secondary School.

It's not managerin, it's only manager, like with nearly every expression, which can be sort of confusing sometimes when you don't know what sex is meant.

Hey Saba, nice seeing you here. Soooo, you Speak English occupational. That's badass.

What do you think about such a thread in french - "francais seulement" - ? Does anyone wants to train also french?
Nooooo. I really don't. But I would like to train my very rudimentary Dansk. Anybody?

Saba, we could talk about the housebuilding. There sure as hell are many vokabularys I've never heard before. As armoring.
I don't like the weather. If it hadn't changed in the wrong direction today ... actually they would have added concrete to the armoring on our now mounted filigree ceiling. If that had happened today and the weather had still been nice, next weak the gables had been mounted and this part of the construction would've been over.
Now we'll have to wait, until the temperatures at night stay over sirrow.
It sucks.
More, since we're going to have a lack of internet and telephone connection from end of march and I don't know, how to survive that.

You'll have to tell me about some good surfsticks.

Hey Stoffel,

that's great. Let's talk about housebildung. But this is much more difficult because some of the words I didn't know before in German.

But I hope that the weather will be fine. When will you know what they have done today? I really would like to see some photos! The whole process is so interesting. How far is it away from where you live in the moment? We only had to drive 20 min from our flat to our house.

We had a visitor today. He will built the ground for our garage. In a catalogue I found a really nice garage. It is white with a red roof like our house so it will look very similar. But it is so expensive. Everything is so expensive especially the outdoor facilities. Puh.

Off-Topic
Sorry, I just felt obliged to do that  My English also isn't very well yet and I'm sure I'll need some help in grammar.

It's a great idea! Let me try to talk a bit about me.

I don't like to tell my name to others because my name isn't nice for me  Well, I'm 17 years old and I'm taking the english lessons in the school for, uhm, 6 or 7 years. At home we've a dog, two rabbits and four snails. My hobbies are nature, photography, computer and playing the video games. Normally I'm speaking English at the school and online game where I am. Um, I have no idea anymore what to say... :uups:

There's one thing who is really annoying me. So how you see, my English is kinda simple and unilateral. Does anybody have an idea how to improve my English? Maybe I should start to read some english books and watch the english films... I don't know. :eusa_think:

@NeeChee_miau: I never noticed that you do live near to Magdeburg  I also live near to Magdeburg. Well, it's 45 minutes away from here, but still.

What do you think about such a thread in french - "francais seulement" - ? Does anyone wants to train also french?

Well, there might be a wee tiny problem with the French thread (despite the fact, that I really hate this language - I guess, it's because of my French teachers :silence:) : I am not quite sure if any member of the team is trained enough to look over French conversations .. With English, that's okay, there are some who think they are able to, but French ? Better ask the team before opening this thread .. And we have to look over it to control for adherence to our rules.

Oh what a great idea... an English thread:D.

I don't really know, what to write about, but I just started working at a pizza place this Monday. It's really nice there and the pizza is amazing. I have to be a little bit careful, cause I put weight on so fast:D.

About my pets. We have a wiener dog named Hazel and a mix named Coco. They are both almost 2 years old. Hazel is from a breeder and we got her, when she was 8 weeks old. Coco comes from the shelter. It was love at first site;).

I totally love to cook, read and hang out with people.

I'm married and 29 years old.

Good morning :D
I didn't know anything about housebuilding, so I can't tell something about this.
But I hope, the housebuilding for you two works fine and there aren't much problems with that (expect the temperature)

Fleckihund, nice to join us here.
The best way to prove english is to speak it  With reading English books you only learn English words. By watching english films you also learn the right pronunciation of words. Writing a text in English can help to find the right words and also learn a little bit of english grammar.
There's one thing who is really annoying me.
Who is for persons. For things you had to say which ;)
When I started this thread I forgot, that the moderators have to look over it
I hope, it's okay for you anyway.
Candy, I love pizza too. A few days ago I also made one at home by myself. I work the half of the day at one pizza but it was yummy :D

Sincerely
Jessica
