Awesome, an english-speaking thread! *happydance*
A little introduction:
My name is Melanie and I´m 27 years old. I´ve learned to speak english in school, on various trips, by reading and through a special hobby.
I never had a problem with the english language, it kind of comes naturally to me, I don´t know why. In school, I always had problems writing tests because I couldn´t tell which tense a sentence or word was in, I just used the words or structures that "felt" right to me.
The company I´m working for builts and sells grills. The headquarters are in Chicago, Illinois, where I spent one month as an intern in October 2005. I lived in my own little flat, had a nice car and worked at the different departments like a normal employee. That was a great time! When I came back, my mom took me to her english-class. She´s been attending it for over 20 years now. It´s a conversational course, they talk about stuff that happens in media and normal life, but on the highest level that is available at the VHS. I quit the course after 3 years.
Because my mom´s always been a fan of the US (and so am I), she wanted to go there on vacation, too. We went there for the first time when I was 14. The trip took us to Florida: Orlando, Miami and the amusement parks there. When my dad told a friend at work about the trip, he got very excited and said that he has a house in Fort Myers. So, we spend our next vacation there. My parents loved the neighborhood and startet dreaming about there own house. Some of them were for sale and they were able to look at a few. Some month later, the descision was made: They bought one of the houses, which is now my second home. I love it there!
I also used to collect model horses. This hobby originated in the US: 2 of the main companys are located there. I´ve met some great people on the boards and forums there, some of them I´m still friends with.
Reading english books is also one of my hobbies. It all really started with the Twilight saga. :uups: I´ve read ton´s of fan fiction, like the "Shades of Grey"-Series, which startet as a little story and is now very popular.
I wanted to move to the US together with my boyfriend, but the relationship didn´t work out. I´d still do it if I had the option. I know that some people think that wanting to live there is very wierd, but I love the country, the positive people and the language.
If someone has a question, please just ask...
Candy: I´m very jelaous (but in a good way, I promise) about your living in the US... Tennessee, wow! Do you listen to country musik? I love it!
We saw a coyote once on a cemetery, right in the middle of downtown Chicago. Crazy! But the guy was very pretty.
Shila: I´ve just googled the breed and it is very pretty. I like brindle dogs. They look cool, round ears? How cool is that?
