Oh yes there are a bunch of different words or phrases in the American English. I like it better, too and use it.

EDIT (automatische Beitragszusammenführung)

And I've never been in Michigan either:?.

Me too, my sister visited it :)

It is a strange feeling, when you say goodbye to your hostsister and think " Maybe we'll never see again" :?

  • English only! Beitrag #43
But you can fly there and visit her. At a non vacation time the flights are pretty cheap. The cheapest I ever had was around 465 Euro round trip.

  • English only! Beitrag #44
But I visit school too and cannot just fly away ;D

She will visit Germany in about 3 years (with her university-german-class) :)

@Turtle28: I always prefered the American English, but since I like One Direction and I watch their interviews I have to say, that british english can also sound very good.
But for some reasons I can't understand it that good like I can understand american english.
Although we learn british english at school.
The american english just sounds better for me. For me it is the "normal" english language, when you understand what I mean... ;)

In school, I really hated American English due to the accent - but when compared to the movies on TV we always had pretty bad listening comprehension examples ^^We were never forced to use British English - we only had to stick to either British or American English while writing ^^I have to use the English language quite often during my everyday life at university. And I have to write my Master thesis in English. But actually, I do not bother too much about that since I spend one year abroad in Northern Ireland when I was 17 ..After finish my Masters, my boyfriend and I will visit some of his relatives who migrated to Australia. I am really looking forward =) His parents were over in Australia in November last year and I am pretty jealous when I see all the pictures ..

Oh Nienor, you spend one year in Ireland? How cool.
What did you du there? And would yo say, that it improved your english skill much?
And what about the irish accent? Was ist difficult to understand the native speakers at first?
Sorry, I'm so nosey ;)

I went to school :D It was an exchange year ;)
It definitely helped to improve my language skills a lot .. I did passed my final exam in my advanced English course getting 15 points ^^ the English teacher first told me "No-one ever got 15 points here at this school, so even you will not get them" - well, in the end she was wrong. Bad luck for her, good luck for me :003:
I even had a part in the exam about "Angela's Ashes" and in Ireland we watched the movie belonging to that book - so I guess I had some advantages

The accent, well, it is .. different. Especially because some people even use some Irish words in between ^^ but actually, most Irish people speak pretty clearly (as long you do not end up in a Gaeltacht) and it is easy to understand once your are "in it", just my host brother was terrible :003:
But to be honest, I had some problems when going to school back in Germany because they could not really understand my accent at first :silence: I guess it resembled that of my host brother quite a lot .. Northern Irish Accent :003:

Turtle, of course, if you are still in school, you cannot just fly if you want to. I didn't know that.

Ireland... I would love to go again. But for right now, it's too expensive and to far. I wanna fly to my family.

Good Morning :D
I had a busy day yesterday, so I can't write much.
Nienor, you had exchance projekts with Ireland in school?
At our schools we only have exchance projects with people of France and America.
I never was part of one of these projekts. I'm not sure if I can to that.
What if I don't like the familiy or the other people! I am in a foreign country and maype the people don't understand me
Holidays are okay, but one year? No, I think that's too long for me.
What I maybe want to do when I'm studying at the university or after studying is this: . It's a summer school for students of veterinary medicine in Cambridge. It only takes 9 weeks, so it's okay for me.
The only problem: my englsh had to be fluent  I don't know how much English I learn at the university in Germany. But I hope that I learn some medical words. Maybe I need them also at work.
Oh by the way, I had to get up and get ready for work :D
I hope I also have some time to write here after work.
Greeting
Jessica

Well, it was not directly and exchange, but the organisation called it that way. There are many organisations organizing years abroad for students.
You usually have two contact persons if you have problems with your family. One is local and lives in the area and one is just responsible for the whole region. But I never had problems talking to my host mum even though I had some problems with my Norvegian host sister who liked to call her boyfriend in the middle of the night O.O

Jessica are you becoming a vet? That sounds great. I was thinking about it or at least to become a vet technician. The schools are super expensive here and my husband just started college again. So either I wait till he's done or I do something else.

I had some problems with my Norvegian host sister who liked to call her boyfriend in the middle of the night O.O
Have you shared the room with her or was she speaking so loud? :eusa_think: I didn't normaly wake up when someone in the neigbor room call someone.
Yes Candy, I want to become a vet. I liked to start the studies at university right after school but my notes wasn't good enough for that.
So I startet a apprenticeship.
The school for vet technicans here in Freiburg is free, you only had to buy books you need or things like that by yourself. But the introducion of school fee is in discussion.
I had many people in class who move to Freiburg because of the apprenticeship. But then you had to pay the rent for a flat.
I didn't know what is cheaper, the rent or the cost at other schools. I am happy, that I don't have to move, so I can saving my money for the studying. Because than I had to move away from here.
Greetings
Jessica

Yes, we actually had to share a bedroom. But whenever my host brother was in Belfast I was allowed to sleep in his room. And yes, my Norvegian host sister had a pretty loud voice ..

Hey Candy, Hey Stoffel, Hey everyone.

At first I have to say, im very tired at the moment, so i think this post will be funny to read :D

I work at a tour operator which is specialized at the Azores Islands. 9 Islands in the middle of the atlantic. There I found the dogbreed Fila da Sao Miguel, and I felt in love :uups: This Breed is a very pretty and also very clever. At the azores, the breed usually is keeping the house and garden clean frombad strangers. This breed is also known as the azorean cattle dog, like the name says, in the past the dogs are introduced to drive big cattles like cows.

because of me work, I have very good friends at the Island Sao Miguel. They are Dogbreeders and this year one of their puppies will leave the island and come with me to germany :D I have an own Thread because of many questions I have:
At first I was a little confused and i didn´t know if this is a good idea, too bring the puppie to germany, especially because i have just a flat and no big house with a big garden, as the most poeple at the azores.
But then I meet a girl in internet and she also has one of this amazing dogs :) I wrote a lot with her and at least my decision was to take a fila Sao Miguel as our new family member. I think we will get the puppie in summer!

soo if you have any question, please ask :D

greetings and hugs,

Jeannette

Guuuuuys, guess what. A few days again I wrote with Stoffel about it. And now it happened ... I saw the first time a coyote. Coco, one of my dogs "found" him. It was hiding under a little bridge. The animal was pretty big but not in good shape :(. His back was full of scares. I'm soooo excited.

Hello
Candy, you live in the USA?
Were you born there or do you immigrate to the USA?
Here in Germany most of the schools for veterinary technicans are with costs. I think, only 2 schools are for free. And there aren't many school here for this apprenticeship.
Congratulations to your sighting :D
Shila it's a beautiful breed.
But is this a fighting dog? ( I hope, fighting is the right word )
Greetings
Jessica

Awesome, an english-speaking thread! *happydance*

A little introduction:
My name is Melanie and I´m 27 years old. I´ve learned to speak english in school, on various trips, by reading and through a special hobby.

I never had a problem with the english language, it kind of comes naturally to me, I don´t know why. In school, I always had problems writing tests because I couldn´t tell which tense a sentence or word was in, I just used the words or structures that "felt" right to me.
The company I´m working for builts and sells grills. The headquarters are in Chicago, Illinois, where I spent one month as an intern in October 2005. I lived in my own little flat, had a nice car and worked at the different departments like a normal employee. That was a great time! When I came back, my mom took me to her english-class. She´s been attending it for over 20 years now. It´s a conversational course, they talk about stuff that happens in media and normal life, but on the highest level that is available at the VHS. I quit the course after 3 years.
Because my mom´s always been a fan of the US (and so am I), she wanted to go there on vacation, too. We went there for the first time when I was 14. The trip took us to Florida: Orlando, Miami and the amusement parks there. When my dad told a friend at work about the trip, he got very excited and said that he has a house in Fort Myers. So, we spend our next vacation there. My parents loved the neighborhood and startet dreaming about there own house. Some of them were for sale and they were able to look at a few. Some month later, the descision was made: They bought one of the houses, which is now my second home. I love it there!
I also used to collect model horses. This hobby originated in the US: 2 of the main companys are located there. I´ve met some great people on the boards and forums there, some of them I´m still friends with.
Reading english books is also one of my hobbies. It all really started with the Twilight saga. :uups: I´ve read ton´s of fan fiction, like the "Shades of Grey"-Series, which startet as a little story and is now very popular.

I wanted to move to the US together with my boyfriend, but the relationship didn´t work out. I´d still do it if I had the option. I know that some people think that wanting to live there is very wierd, but I love the country, the positive people and the language.

If someone has a question, please just ask...

Candy: I´m very jelaous (but in a good way, I promise) about your living in the US... Tennessee, wow! Do you listen to country musik? I love it!
We saw a coyote once on a cemetery, right in the middle of downtown Chicago. Crazy! But the guy was very pretty.

Shila: I´ve just googled the breed and it is very pretty. I like brindle dogs. They look cool, round ears? How cool is that?
