Probably it works different in Austria. Cause in Germany you are 11, when you are in 6th Grade.

  • English only! Beitrag #243
yeah in Austria we count a little bit different: We have 4 years primary school and then we count from the beginning again. So you come in the 1st class with 10/11 and with 17/18 you are in the final class of high school. ;) Hope it's understandable. ;)

Yes it is;). It would be really young, if you send somebody to do an exchange with 11.

Hey guys.
How are you?
Since yesterday we have 2 little ducklings! The first one hatched out Thursday evening and the second one today at 2 am.
They are so sweet. I am eager(?) how much ducklings will hatch.
They are now in my room in an old rat cage with hay, corn grist (Maisschrot), Water and a heat lamp.

Ducklings... that sounds interesting. Where do they come from? And what do you mean with the word eager?

So the summer is coming... what do you all plan for vacation?

We plan a trip to Germany to catch up with friends and family and showing off with our cute littel boy! We are still waiting to get a passport for the little one and I hope we will make it in August to escape NZ winter.

In the middle of june we have our holiday in croatia, nearly the whole class - so it is our holiday after the oral exams.
And hopefully I'll go to USA in August/September.

How was your holiday in Florida, Candy?? ;)

  • English only! Beitrag #249
Have you already been in the USA, Tierliebe?
Where do you want to go exactly? ;)

ohh, and I have a question. Next year I have (hopefully) my Matura. So I want to go to Australia in January 2015. I will do my FCE. How long should I learn there to reach this level? I'm not very good in English... :silence: Which organisation should I take? Had anyone here an experience like that? What's about EF and BoaLingua?

  • English only! Beitrag #250
Yes I have been there twice, 2000 and 2008, always at the west-coast.
I will go to California/L.A. =)

  • English only! Beitrag #251
Thanks for asking Tierliebe. Florida was really wonderful. I don't wanna live there, cause it's way to hot. But the beach, the sand was great.
California sounds fantastic. Just beach or sightseeing:D?

@I have absolutly no experience with these organisations.

  • English only! Beitrag #252
Really? I was there too! ;) Or does anyone have experience with another organisation for international education? :eusa_think:

@Candy: Working, I wanna go there for one year as an AuPair-girl. =) My family has friends there....

  • English only! Beitrag #254
You were where, Zworgli?

Au Pair...how cool. I'm too old for that;).

  • English only! Beitrag #255
We were at the West Coast! We were in L.A., San Francisco, Las Vegas and San Diego.. and many other little villages.. We started our trip in L.A. and then we travelled up to S.F. where we flew back home..

@Zworgli
I did the CAE in school and we did rather well. There was also an optional class for the FCE and as far as I remeber everyone passed this one... we even passed the CAE without doing anything beforehand, just like in our English Abitur D: But maybe that's not the best way, especiall when you say you are not that good.
What for do you need this certificate? When I started to study English my university had a special test everyone, even if they had any language certificates, had to pass, but this was kinda bull*** as it said nothing about your langauga skills, just if you are godd at guessing.
I can also recommend the TOEFL test, it's kinda expensive but it's also international well known and approved. Furthermore i heard it's rather easy in comparison to the Cambridge tests.

  • English only! Beitrag #257
Thank you Denez! ;) I don't really need it, but I want to go to Australia anyway to improve my English and so I thought I can do this exam.. maybe sometime it will be useful to have it.. and I have a purpose..

  • English only! Beitrag #258
Hm, if I were you I would safe the money for the certificate :-/ I don't know why but those loose their validity after 6 month to two years, depends on which one you do. Of course it's always good to have some official document that states thht you are capable of the language bur for most purposes a good Abitur report is enough. For some jobs you truely need such a certificate but then you have to redo it anyway. I don't want to say that teh FCE or TOEFL would be useless for you but as you are planning to visit an English speaking country for some time anyway, it's just not necessary (and as I said above, those test are really expensive, we were lucky to pay only 120€ for the CAE, just the test! No preperation classes of any kind)

  • English only! Beitrag #259
Yeah, I know... I will see.. I will go in one and a half year, so I have time to think about it.. ;)

I simply LOVE Australia since my early childhood but I've never been there and I always wanted to immigrate to down Under... maybe someday :p
How long will you stay in Australia? What are you planning to do?
